Guest post and a hungry day

First things first: If you haven't stumbled upon it yet, the wonderful and sweet Lara of Thinspired asked me to do a guest post for her on my methods of grazing. Check it out here! It was a really fun post to write and I'd like to say hi to any new readers that may have discovered me through her. Hooray for food blogger networking!
.
Meal numero uno yesterday was a delicious bowl of oats. Yes, I finally had a fantastic bowl of oatmeal. I think I discovered what my taste buds had been lacking these past couple weeks: apricot jam!!! Not just any jam, this tart, low-sugar jar of perfection is homemade by my mom and there is a limited supply (sob!) but I'm enjoying the heck out of it for as long as I can.
  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 3/4 cup water
  • half a banana
  • cinnamon
  • cashew butter
  • the saving grace - apricot jam!

Mid-morning snack:

Thank goodness for the 10 grams of protein in this bar because I wasn't able to eat lunch until 2! When breakfast is at 6, that's waaaaay too long for me. Food was the only thing on my mind, I just wanted to cry. That or punch someone in the face....either way. Hangry.

My snack lunch was a plain Chobani yogurt with Kashi Go lean,a honeycrisp and some snap peas.

I can't even tell you how happy I was after eating. Life was worth living again. :) You understand my exaggerations right??? Oh and I would like to add that I didn't have any digestive issues/pains from the yogurt! I realized that around 4 and did a little happy dance.

After work I ran to the store to stock up on produce again. Apparently I saw more and more items to purchase because before I knew it I had spent nearly $100. My normal grocery shops (for both my husband and I) are between $40 and 70 so this was surprising. Of course I didn't go shopping last week so I suppose it evens out.

By the time I got home I was - you guessed it - hungry again. I attacked this box of cereal. Poor thing, never saw it coming.Multiply that handful by a million...Sadly, cereal alone couldn't solve my hunger troubles so I made a ww tortilla wrap with a little surprise inside.
Earth Balance almond butter and dried fruit. Weird? Probably. Good? Yup!

Dinner was a recipe for Cabbage Roll Casserole I found on Lyn's blog, Escape from Obesity. If you've never read her blog I highly recommend it. She's such a terrific writer and her posts are always fantastic.

Brown one pound ground beef in a pan with a chopped onion and a few cloves of chopped garlic.
Add spices (garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, black pepper, thyme, sea salt...), Worcestershire sauce and tomato paste. I used leftover marinara and pizza sauce. It tasted just fine.Add half a chopped cabbage.Stir to combine and set heat to medium-low. Simmer for about 45 minutes or until cabbage is soft.Final product: please ignore the heavy use of flash photography. It's dark in my kitchen...Normally I would have served this with some fresh rolls or homemade bread. Unfortunately I didn't have any ambition to make it so I made some brown basamati rice instead. I topped my plate with some Cholula post-photo.

This was a tasty, easy meal to prepare and gets two thumbs up. My husband even went back for a second plate. :)

Dessert was completely unintentional and unphototgraphed. I had a few more pieces of dried fruit and then half an apple that I cut up for Dave. He never eats fruit!! All he had yesterday was some beef jerky and then two plates of the above dinner. Uhhh, could we be more different??

Workout: 4 miles on stationary bike - not much of a workout is it?? Maybe I should call it something else. I do a lot of random moves/stretches throughout the day that I never mention on here. Squats while brushing my teeth. Calf strengthening moves while at work. I never sit down except to eat my lunch during the day. I suppose all this adds up to something, right?

Questions: Do you find that you eat more than your significant other? Uhh, yeah! If they have questionable eating habits do you try to change them? I don't try to change Dave's eating habits too much but I sure wish he would eat breakfast. He barely eats at all during the day and then stuffs himself at night. He loves vegetables though so I can't complain about that. He will eat fruit but I have to wash, cut and plate it for him before he'll eat it. Men.

  1. I read your guest post, it was great! And yes, my hubs is the same way. Barely any food until dinner and then he gorges himself. He is picky about veggies but I have found ways to cook them so he actually likes them.

The cabbage rice thing looks like those polish cabbage rolls stuffed with rice and beef. I think your recipe is much healthier though! I won't eat my mother in laws since finding out she uses bacon fat in the beef mixture!

  5. Ahhhahaha - my husband is the same way about fruit. So strange! He'll scoff when I suggest having an apple if he's hungry, but if I cut it up for him, he's all over it! I'll never understand! :)

  6. Hi Jessie, I found your blog through Thinspired. You're now on my RSS feed.

And yes, I definitely eat more than my significant other, it's like food isn't the center of his universe or something-it's crazy if you ask me.

  7. awesome post!! I definitely eat more than my husband. But by more I guess I mean more in quantity and quality=) I eat plates of veggies and fruits but he does the starve thing then eats way huge meals. He doesn't like fruits and veggies though=/ but im working on it=) I dont try to change him as I would hate if someone tried to change the way I eat. So I just try to offer him foods and I try to keep a variety around the house. Have a great day! I love your site by the way!!

  9. I eat WAY more than my hubby does. He used to skip breakfast or eat a tiny little bar but then I introduced him to Oatmeal (granted it is instant but at least better than nothing) and now he is an oatmeal fiend!

  12. I eat a lot of little meals and my family likes 2 big ones. We just do our own things and it usually works out.
If I went that long w/o food I'd be hangry too. Thank god for Clif Mojos!

  13. The Cabbage Casserole dish looks amazing! That looks and sounds right up my alley!

I think the dried fruit + nut butter combo sounds divine.

  14. Awww, you are so sweet. I loved your post! Hopefully we can give each other some new readers :)

I think volume-wise, I probably do eat more than Matthew. He tends to eat small amounts of calorie-dense foods (cheese, chocolate, etc), so technically I do eat "more" since I go for the most food for as few calories as possible! :) No shame, no shame.

  15. I found you via Lara's guest post= and I must say, I loved what I read! I probably eat voluminous meals, btu also graze. A lot. Never a huge meal. So I like what I see! Also- hahaha, I'm always worried I'll end up with somebody that eats less than me. I don't know if I could do it! Granted- men, when they do eat, eat a lot of crap, but it'd be nice to know they were filling themselves up with good food. C'est la vie, I guess. :)

  18. I eat less my my H... WAY less! He looks at my meals and calls them snacks. lol
He eats healthy, for the most part. But he tends to graze, ESPECIALLY at night. Junk food beware - he will find you! I think he has been getting a tad annoyed with me because when I shop I mainly shop for foods that I like to eat... it's hard for me to buy junky types of food when I don't them - I really just don't even think of it!
So now we go shopping together and he buys what he wants. Problem Solved! =)
