Cats and Krawls

This morning my cat, Pepper, scrambled onto our bed at 7:15 meowing loudly. As I do every morning, I pull back the blankets so she can cuddle in with me where it's nice and warm. This is why I named her Pepper. Most people think it's because she's mostly black with a sprinkle of white on her belly and chest but I named her after a hot pepper. When she was a kitten I used to come home and find her in a little ball (in August) cuddled underneath as many blankets as possible in my condo. I would reach under them to pet her and she would be roasting hot under there. This happened daily the entire first week I had her and while I still hadn't decided on a name - it soon became Pepper. My then boyfriend (now husband) lived in a condo 4 doors down from mine and had adopted Pepper's sister who eventually earned the name Vern. Yes, Vern's a girl. Remember the Ernest movies?? "You know what I mean, Vern?" Yeah - poor kitty, I call her Vernon or LaVern most of the time. The strange name totally fits her though....I mean, she does eat hair.
.
Anyway, where am I going with this? Nowhere really...I'm just up at 7:30 on a Saturday because my cat decided to take my warm spot in bed when I got up to go to the bathroom and then my husband stole my pillow. So. I'm blogging and making some coffee instead. :)
.
Let's get back to yesterday's eats. My breakfast was quick and easy. I used my last whole wheat tortilla to make a banana burrito with some crunchy almond butter, strawberry rhubarb jam and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
My day of eats was quite uncommon for me, as I didn't have a mid-morning or afternoon snack. I get on these kicks every now and then where my hunger just subsides and will let me go more than the typical 2-3 hours without food. Whatever, like Intuitive Eating teaches us: Honor your hunger and Respect your fullness. Right??
.
Lunch:
Giant honeycrisp apple, two carrots and a plain Chobani with Kashi Go Lean and some pomegranate arils.
My boss said this looked like ice cream. It tasted better than ice cream to me....
During the rest of my workday I sipped on a couple cups of Kombucha green tea. This is one my current favorites and I love the little unique quotes on each tea bag.
Not a bad note to end a hectic Friday afternoon on, is it?
As is common on Fridays, Dave and I went out for dinner. We have a pile of 'buy one, get one' coupons for local restaurants that expire on December 31st so we used those to decide where to eat. We decided on Pappy's Corner Pub. I started with a glass of pinot grigio. (See that man in the background? He would not STOP staring at me all night. I wanted to slap him.)
I had a salad with Asian dressing,
as well as a 'build your own burger' made with a portobello mushroom (in place of the meat), jalapenos, swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, mustard and ketchup. With a pickle.
The jalapenos were insanely hot, I went through two glasses of water and two glasses of wine while eating it. My mouth was on fire....loved it! I'm not sure where my recent obsession with hot foods came from but whenever I eat anything savory it always has to be spicy.

Today we have an exciting event to attend, one that I look forward to all year, the Kwaiser Krawl. We have a friend named John Kwaiser who throws a party each year a couple weeks before Christmas. It takes place in Old Town Fort Collins, starting at noon. We all meet up and then migrate from bar to boutique, to bar to boutique. It's a drunken "krawl" through the Old Town bars as well as a last minute Christmas shopping spree. It usually takes most of the day and we try to go to as many popular bars as possible. We've gone every year for the past 5 years, taking turns on who gets to be the designated driver. This year I will be driving us home, as I received the pleasure of getting annihilated last year. :) I'll try to get some good pictures but I don't want to be "that girl" so we'll see! I'm just excited to cross some Christmas shopping off my to-do list!
.
Hope everyone has a great weekend. Cross something off your to-do list ok?

  5. Love your kitty names! My grandma's name is LaVern, how funny is that? What an awful name to give to a little girl... but a GREAT cat name. :-)

Have fun at the crawl! Sounds like a great way to get some Christmas shopping knocked out.
