Flashback Tuesday

Not quite as catchy as Flashback Friday now is it?? Oh well.

I was getting ready this morning when I thought about the date: January 26th. For some reason it seemed oddly familiar and it took me a few moments to remember why.....

Two years ago today, Dave proposed to me in Mexico!
We took a week long vacation to Cabo San Lucas with my parents on January 26th, 2008. It was essentially a belated Christmas vacation with the added perk of sun and sand....and a diamond ring for me. :)
It was the first night and we went to dinner at a little restaurant called Mariscos Mazatlan. I was hungry and chowing down on the chips & salsa when suddenly Dave started to propose a toast. He began talking and I had no idea what was coming - actually, I kept eating chips. (Whoops.)

He then grabbed my hand (away from the food) and started saying all these wonderful things.
Then he got down on one knee and pulled the ring out from under the table. Side note: My dad had been carrying the ring since we left home & had placed it on Dave's leg underneath the table.
I squeaked a little and nodded my head instead of saying "yes".
(These pictures are not flattering at all....)
My mom was just as flabbergasted as I was.
The rest of the trip was great - I got my hair braided. Humidity & I are not friends.
The men enjoyed many cigars and snifters of tequila.
My dad had a blast at a little outdoor bar that was hosting Margarita Monday.
Dave would kill me if he saw this photo....luckily he doesn't read my blog.
I indulged a bit as well - hey, it's Cabo!
The whole trip went well until the second to last night when we decided to have dinner at Cabo Wabo. The four of us split the lobster burritos which unfortunately gave me, my dad and Dave food poisoning. I have no idea how my mom didn't get sick - she's immune to everything I swear.

So - the moral of the story? Cabo is a great place to go for fun, sun (and diamond rings) but don't ever eat the lobster burritos from Cabo Wabo. You will wind up much more familiar with whomever you are sharing your bathroom. Good thing he proposed the first night, huh???

  5. Loved the flashback story, and yes, good thing the proposal was on the first day and not the last!

I would be your Mom though, I can eat just about anything and never get sick, while everyone else is hugging the toilet.

But then I eat jalapenos straight out of a jar - maybe that's where I get my iron stomach!

  13. Ok, so when I first read this yesterday I squealed because it made me realize that both my husband and I completely forgot our engagement anniversary, which was on the 20th! AHHH! So much for romance.

Your story is so sweet. What a setting for an engagement!
