Burn-y

Coincidentally my last name is Berney and I seem to burn myself every other day on my straightening iron. Perhaps I should change the spelling to include the word "burn"?

Obviously my Monday began wonderfully. (insert sarcasm...)
Arg.
After I singed my skin I still managed to whip up a simple & delicious breakfast. My last two pieces of millet toast with MaraNatha almond butter & banana.
Work was work - my boss is heading to Vegas later this week for March Madness which means I have the early shift all week. It's not too bad, but waking up at 4:45 on that fifth day can be a little difficult.

Mid-morning snacks:
My extremely un-photogenic lunch consisted of leftover roasted potatoes/roasted garlic, (sorry coworkers) an apple and a plain Chobani with a dollup of Sunbutter and cinnamon.
I kept the Sunbutter/cinnamon in a little plastic container until I was ready to use it - the cinnamon almost melts into the nut butter.
Chobani? Oikos? Fage? Will one of you please make this flavor???? You'll make millions, I promise.
After work I ran to the grocery store. Correction - THREE grocery stores. Am I crazy? Wait, don't answer that. We were out of so many different items, which unfortunately, cannot all be found at one place.
  • Whole Foods carries my large containers of Fage, cashew butter & Luna protein bars.
  • King Soopers carries Dave's frozen meals, toilet paper, Kleenex and the large carton of egg whites. Side note: I hate going there, I never buy produce and to anyone paying attention it looks like I live on frozen meals, egg whites & use tons of toilet paper.
  • Sprouts is where I buy all my produce, organic meats/cheeses, coffee and they have amazing deals on almost everything else.
Needless to say, three grocery stores and $110 later - we are definitely stocked up.
After shopping my tail off I needed sustenance. I toasted up a spelt english muffin with some artichoke & garlic hummus.
After a few episodes of 16 & Pregnant and the new Kendra I started prepping dinner. I made a couple of salads with baby romaine, shredded carrot, cucumber, avocado & walnuts. Mine also had some baby spinach and strawberries. First strawberries of the year!!!
I topped mine with a homemade balsamic vinaigrette - just olive oil & balsamic vinegar.
While I prepped the salads, Dave grilled up some BBQ chicken. Can I get a hooray for Daylight Savings?? I love that it's still light out at dinnertime.
My portions - I actually only ate one piece of chicken. My eyes were bigger than my stomach.
Workout: 6 miles on stationary bike

Post-workout snack: Half a Clif Mojo bar
Question: Do you shop at multiple grocery stores? Please tell me I'm not the only one.

  1. Love bbq chicken!

Yes, I shop at multiple grocery stores. Usually Target or Walmart for diapers and formula, and then my regular grocery store for all the food. Kind of a hassle, but I'm all about saving money!

  3. Oh I hit up Hyvee because they carry my lovely addiction: Naturally More PB & Whole Foods for nutritional yeast, bars, and Kombucha (Annies products sometimes too). It is just a matter of getting what I want!

LOVE all the PB action in this post!

  4. I definitely shop at multiple grocery stores - Wal Mart and preferably Target for Luna/Clif bars, household stuff and some other specialty items, Fareway for quality meat and sometimes sale items, and HyVee for everything else. I love grocery shopping!

  5. I shop at multiple grocery stores too. It's the only way to get everything we need. Your yogurt looks really good. I love the way you package your lunch.

  6. 3 would be a normal trip for me. It's entirely reasonable, especially if you shop the sales
Kitchen burns are the worst. I get so many :-(

  7. OH HELLS yea I shop at multiple grocery stores. I hit up the local grocery for my produce, whole foods (when I can drive an hour away) for bars/weird ingredients, and sprouts (an hour away) for their pita bread. BTW I llike how you watched those serious shows before cooking dinner. priorities.

  10. Yep, I do the same. Costco for my husband's lunches, Trader Joe's and Safeway, for all of the things I need that TJ's doesn't carry.

  11. OMG, I really thought I was the only person who shops at several stores. I go to 4, and that doesn't include the health food stores. It wouldn't be too bad except that I don't have a car!

4:45 wake up? Yikes. I am curious about your job now!

YES to the PBJ yogurt! I did a whole post last summer saying they need to jump on that bandwagon. FYI- the Fage 2% cherry twinpots with almond butter are out.of.this.world.
