Foodie Fail and Q & A

Some days you just fail as a foodie. Yesterday was one of those days. You know what I'm talking about, you start off with a wonderful breakfast full of great flavors:

  • spelt English muffin
  • hummus
  • avocado
  • hot sauce
  • egg
  • some blueberries on the side
But then you get to your (pre-packed) mid-morning snack of pineapple, cottage cheese, stevia and cinnamon only to realize that you hate sweet cottage cheese concoctions. You knew that & yet you thought it would work.

Foodie fail #1 - cottage cheese should only be eaten as part of a savory meal. Too salty...
A handful of roasted garbanzo beans make up for the lackluster-ness of your snack. Plus they help get that taste out of your mouth.
Then you are all too disappointed by your lunch. Well, disappointed is the wrong word. Quite frankly, my lunch just pissed me off.

It was a single cup of Chobani - which was the consistency of water. Who forgot to strain my Greek yogurt?? I mixed in a packet of Justin's classic almond butter which, I'm sad to say, was not good. The whole mess was runny, sour, chunky - you get the point. I also had a mealy apple and the rest of the roasted garbanzo beans. <--- At least that part I liked!

Foodie fail #2 - I even forgot to take a picture...

After work I ran home only to receive a phone call from the hubs as soon as I walked through the door. Meet at Old Chicago at 6? Ok. That gives me about an hour and a half to nap, eat and change. Which did I choose first?
Why that would be Foodie fail #3! A protein shake with cappuccino Spiru-tein, cold coffee, 2% milk and ice. Caffeine before a nap? F my life.
With some leftover BBQ chicken on the side for a salty contrast. Has everyone realized that my meals must include a sweet & savory note?
Which of course left me too full for dinner at 6. I had an ice cold Hefe-Weizen - not dyed green - and a side Caprese salad. Three slices of tomato, three slices of fresh mozzarella and some basil. It was good but everyone at the table pitied me and tried to give me some of their food. Ha.

My appetite returned with a vengeance at 8:30 on the drive home. Luckily I keep an emergency Clif Mojo bar in my purse, no picture, you see me eat them enough to know what it looks like right?? :)

Q & A

Since Blogger sucks & will not let me reply straight to a comment (or even give me your email!) I have decided the best way for me to answer common questions is at the bottom of posts. I would answer back in the comment section (I have before) but I know that most people never check back. Hopefully this works for everyone.

"What kind of moves did you do on the stability ball?"
I don't really have a routine down yet but I did a few from the DVD that came with it. Such as:
  • Sit straight up and extend each leg while keeping your arms to your sides. Hold each leg for 10 seconds. Repeat 25 times.
  • From a sitting position with arms extended in front of you, palms facing each other, slowly walk your legs outward until the ball has rolled to a point just between your shoulder blades. Walk back to sitting. Repeat 25 times.
  • Standard crunches with legs at 90* and ball placed beneath your middle back. Extends the range of motion that you would normally get from laying flat on the floor. Repeat until fatigued.
  • Side crunches. My obliques are my trouble area so I was really pushing these. Same position as standard crunches.
There are a ton more but these were what I did the other night. I am definitely feeling it in my upper abs! Also, as you can see, I have no idea what anything is called. Maybe someday I'll do a photo tutorial of the other moves I do know. Please feel free to share yours as well.

"What does your husband do for a living?"
He owns an auto repair shop and has been an ASE certified mechanic for over 8 years. He is a workaholic and I only see him for a couple hours at night during the week. On winter weekends I'm a snowmobiling widow and in the summer I'm a golf widow. He's one of those people who is always on the go.

  1. Doesn't look like a foodie fail day to me- but maybe I am biased since I love cottage cheese with sweet stuff :P I never would have thought that Spirutein would have caffeine in it, regardless of flavour. Weird. ah well...ya win some, you lose some, right?

Hope today is better for you!

  2. I know I hate that blogger does not have a comment on comment function or provide email addresses. Major flaw of blogger.

I do not think you foodie failed at all. I hate when yogurt is all runny. AH! I usually drain off the excess liquid when that happens

  5. Bummer on the food fails. I hate days like that. I'm terrible about posting pics of food. You would think that I would have more stuff about food, and yet, sadly, I don't. I do love the idea of a cappuccino smoothie though.

  6. I definitely need--or at least want--my meals to be salty/savory.
I hate packing meals or making things I know I won't like but think I might. Cocoa powder in greek yogurt is just Not for me

  8. I tried roasted garbanzo beans after reading your post about them. Thanks for introducing me to my new favorite food! LOL

And I can totally relate to getting pissed about lunch...if I don't like my lunch, I feel cranky until dinner. :)

  9. I HATE it when I eat a snack too close to dinner and am not hungry - it makes me so mad.

Also, it's funny you only like savory cottage cheese - I pretty much just like the sweet combos!

  11. Ugh I hate having one of those kind of days. Just where nothing turns out the way I want it to. I love sweet cottage cheese. My favorite way to eat it is with applesauce :)

  12. I had a total food fail day!
Breakfast was ok, I mixed my usual banana oats with a pot of strawberry yogurt as I ran out of plain greek, not as good and I had to rush to catch the bus.
Packed lunch didn't satisfy me and then when I came home I wanted something fast, so I threw different cereals in a bowl, topped it with mango yogurt but then mixed in peanut butter only to realise that the mango taste and chunks are seriously not going well with the rest.
    Threw it away.
Then tried to make a decadent choc protein and choc peanut butter concoction, sadly I realised after mixing that the spirulina in that powder is overwhelming me today and that I don't feel like it at all.
I ended up with plain cereal and milk. :(

Some days it just doesn't work...
