Still A Food Blogger

I know it seems as if I've taken a vacation from consistent food blogging.  I kind of have.  Honestly, it's been nice not to worry about preparing food when it's dark outside and not getting a good photo.   The one thing that always bugged me (and my husband) was taking pictures in restaurants.  If I could sneak in a quick photo I'd be thrilled.  But I can't stand having to explain the blog to our friends or strangers who wonder what I'm doing.  I like to remain as anonymous as possible....at least within my social circle.

As much as I like to review restaurants (and I still will occasionally) I would much rather talk about meals that I make at home or new purchases from the grocery store.

Speaking of new purchases - I finally got to try the elusive Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Larabar.
Good god.  Bury my with a giant pile of these.  New favorite for sure.
The hunks of chocolate chips are HUGE.  And amazing.  Definitely more of a "dessert bar".
I also bought the peanut butter chocolate chip Larabar so we'll see which one wins out.
Another thing I've been feeding my sweet tooth?  Lindt dark chocolate with sea salt.  Heaven in a wrapper.
That's not just one bar you see.  That would be four.  Portion control does not exist when it comes to something this delectable.
Should hold me over for a couple weeks.  :)

The one thing I hate about returning from a vacation is the lack of food choices the next day.  With no time for  grocery shopping I had to make due with what I had on had for Wednesdays' lunch.

My pathetic selection: leftover kettle corn from the Red Sox game, carrot sticks with almond butter and smoked oysters.
These remind me of my dad.  We used to share them sprinkled with salt and gross my mom out.
I made burrito bowls the other night.  Inspired by Chipotle's burrito bowl.  Although mine was on a plate for presentation purposes.

  • brown rice with cilantro and jalapeƱos
  • ground beef with red onion, mushrooms and taco seasoning
  • pinto beans
  • chopped tomato
  • avocado

 Delicious.
Using the leftover rice and beans I skipped the beef and made a veganized version the following evening.  With some steamed broccoli and roasted garlic Sabra hummus for dipping.
Top two best dips for steamed broccoli = hummus and BBQ sauce.  A sprinkle of feta is good too.

Enjoy your Sunday!

  1. That Larabar flavor is killer, you're right! Also, your burrito "bowl" looks so good to me right now - can I have one for breakfast??!

Also, I don't really like taking pictures in restaurants either. It's the lighting that really bugs me.

  2. I'd rather take restaurant pictures that hand out my little food blogger business cards, but Katie is right & the lighting almost always sucks. I have searched for that flavor of Larabar, but I don't think it'll be showing up in SoDak any time soon.

  3. funny thing is..when I take pics of my food at restaurants I just keep talking to my friends and they never ask what I'm doing...people only ask if I stop talking and concentrate on the photo..I think talking while taking the pics makes them think what I'm doing is completely normal and that any questions asked will make them look like an idiot. BTW aren't the new lara bar flavors to die for?
