Well, the time has come for me to reveal what that twist is. See my new blog name?? What about the new tagline? (Click here if you're reading in Google Reader.)
That's right friends, I've got a bun in the oven!
How I Told My Husband
I actually found out on New Year's Day after a night out with friends for sushi and a glass (just one, I swear) of delicious champagne. Good thing I ate/drank two of my very favorite, non-preggo-approved foods right before I found out the big news. My husband had actually left early that morning to go ice-fishing with a buddy, leaving me all alone with a positive pregnancy test and two startled kitties who kept giving me funny looks when I bounded up and down the stairs yelling "Holy shit, holy shit holy shit...."
For the next 36 hours I didn't talk to a single person I knew. I decided that Dave needed to be the first one to know the good news and if I didn't tell him first he would be crestfallen. So I did what any expecting mother with a free weekend does, I went shopping. Not for me of course but for the little bean inside my belly.
(I tried to be as gender-neutral as possible but I think this is technically from the little girl's section. Mostly because of the wording on the bib.)
He showed up stinky, hungover and without a single fish from his ice-fishing trip. In fact, the whole reason for this trip was because of the GIANT ice fishing hut I had bought him for Christmas. It was his first time using it. After 8 hours on the ice, he and his buddy packed up for the day, leaving the hut staked to the ice for the night. Turns out, the wind picked up and ripped the entire hut from the ground and blew it away. As in, GONE forever.
Being the forgiving wife that I am, I told him it was alright and that I had another (late) Christmas present for him to open instead.
Ice fishing hut - $299.00
Ice Auger - $400.00 <--- I know! wtf?
Supplies to make a carpeted (I'm not kidding) floor for hut - $100
Coming home from a disastrous trip and finding out you're going to be a daddy???
PRICELESS!
So how am I doing?? I am currently 8 weeks pregnant, I have a cold for the first time since 2008, my doctor made me get a flu shot for the first time in my life and I am so SICK and TIRED of being sick and tired! I'm planning on a food post soon with some of the only foods I can get down my throat (think: carbs + sugar) and the foods that I cannot imagine ever eating again (think: broccoli). Stay tuned! It's going to be wild ride.
Congratulations!
