Retired

As of last week I am officially "retired" from my job.  (Which required a slight update on my About Me page.) Some friends took Dave and I out for dinner last week for a retirement party.  Weirdos.  As much as I love being at home curled up with a cup of tea and a good book, it's SO strange not having a set schedule each day!  I thrive on routines and schedules, at least during the week, and having so much down time is a bit unnerving.

I keep reminding myself that since I am unable to perform my duties at my old job now (too much lifting and bending required) that it's ok to not be pushing myself so hard anymore.  I know so many women work up to their due date (and besides the perk of a paycheck) I now understand why - you'll go crazy otherwise!  Just sitting here, 37 weeks pregnant and thinking of what I can possibly do to keep my mind occupied.  It's harder than you'd think!  Luckily I have a hefty to-do list that I've been knocking out.  I've also found myself nesting like a mad-woman.  Vacuuming doors, corners, baseboards and spiderwebs, arranging and re-arranging the closet in the nursery, washing EVERY blanket in the entire house because oh my god THE CAT HAIR, etc.

The mental aspect of going from a regular 9-5 job to being at home each day is a lot to take and it's only been a few days!  I feel like this is my little vacation before the REAL work starts and I should be enjoying it but I also feel guilty that I'm not contributing and Dave is getting up and going to work every day.  I'm just trying to savor each day as much as I can.  I've also started packing lunches for Dave and making nice dinners each night while I still have the time.  I think he appreciates that and it helps me feel useful around here - there's only so much I can do by myself.

I've been trying to save money and gas so I try not to drive every day.  Unfortunately we live out in the 'burbs so either I drive into town (15 miles) to get sh!t done or I just stay home.  Yesterday was a stay at home day and I think today might be as well.  Luckily staying at home has it's perks - such as:

Baking the best chocolate zucchini cake in the world (my mom's recipe).  And eating three pieces of it.
Eating a delicious and fresh lunch off a real plate and not out of a plastic container in a dark breakroom.
Netflix- oh how much I love you!
Admiring the nursery (photos coming soon) and getting the travel system out and pushing it around the house.  If I wasn't wary of getting cat hair all over it I'd strap Pepper in and take her for a walk!
Can't wait to see a BABY IN THERE.
Finally - for any of you who are interested in seeing a pregnant belly move, here is a little bit of the fun I experience each night after I shower.  I swear you can see her body parts poking out at about :44 seconds.

  2. honestly...if I have the means I'm gonna go part time after I give birth. Unfort for me I "can't" quit cause I'll lose my pharmacy license if I don't work X amount of hours per year...and I'm way to lazy to take the test after years of not working. I'm excited for you! 37 weeks? SH*t!

  3. Enjoy the time to yourself, and get as much rest as you can. I worked up until the day before I had my son (actually, I went into the hospital the evening of my last day at work and he was born before 8 the next morning), and I would've loved more time to have gotten his room ready and my house completely unpacked (we moved 2 months before he was born).
