Week 34 - Hair!

Lots of things going on these past few weeks.  Sorry for the lack of blogging - I promise it will get better.  Let's see what life has in store for the next ~6 weeks:
  • Finish up work, I put in my two weeks TODAY which means my last day is August 18th.  Craziness.  I'll be 36 weeks pregnant at that point and transitioning to weekly doctor appointments so I figured that was a good time to focus on this growing baby girl instead of projects at work.
  • Our basement is getting finished - we are adding a master bedroom (for guests not us), walk-in closet, storage space and a full master bath complete with standing shower, dual sinks and a HUGE bathtub that I can't wait to use.  However, it's still a disaster right now - wanna see?
I try not to go down there too often because IT STRESSES ME OUT too much!  Thanks to the concrete being jack-hammered, our entire house is now filled with a fine gray dust.  Even with dusting every few days I can't keep up with it.  Also, there have been issues with our water being turned off, our A/C not working (!!!!!) and there are flies freaking everywhere.
  • When the basement is finished (aiming for Sept 1) I still have to furnish it enough to make it usable and decorate it.  That'll be quite the adventure at 38 weeks.
  • Our nursery is pretty close to being complete.  We have a couple of shelves to hang, buy the rest of the crib bedding, assemble the stroller/travel system and we're going to move a recliner out of the living room and into the nursery for middle of the night feedings.  I can't justify spending $$$ on a glider when we have a perfectly good recliner sitting (mostly) unused in the living room.
That's most of it for now.  Besides the last minute shopping for baby supplies, washing baby clothes and general nesting I think that about covers it.  Lots to prepare for!
Speaking of which, I had my 34 week appointment today complete with ultrasound.  The clinic I go to only offers one ultrasound at 20 weeks and that's it unless there are complications.  Well, at 32 weeks my Dr. thought I was measuring a bit too small so she set us up for another peek inside the womb.  I was a little worried for a while but I could tell that this baby is sort of wrapped around my torso instead of in a little ball in the middle of my belly.
Luckily everything looks fine and I'm right on schedule, they said some women just tend to carry more toward their back than in front.

Not much going on from the back....
...or a whole lot in the front either.
But take a look at the side view!  No hiding that belly. ;)
A few notes and numbers:

  • Days of work left: 9
  • Weight gained so far: 22 pounds
  • Stretch marks: 0
  • Swollen ankle (cankle) incidents: 1.  Last weekend I had a baby shower and then spent the rest of the day driving around and walking all over town which left my poor ankles huge.  Very attractive.
  • Dates I think she's going to come (due date is 9/14): either 9/11 or 9/22.  Of course 9/10/11 would be pretty cool too.
  • Our baby has a full head of hair AND eyelashes and is DEFINITELY a girl.  :) .  She already weighs about 5 pounds, 1 ounce.  I've heard that babies double their weight in the last month so that number is a little scary even though I know it's just an estimate.

Her little face from straight on - see the white streaks on the eye toward the left?  EYELASHES!

  • Cravings: peaches, watermelon, chocolate pudding, peaches, peanut butter M&M's, refried beans, peaches and avocado.  Did I mention peaches??  :)
  • My belly button is now completely flattened out.  I had the top and bottom of it pierced at one point so there are also 4 little scars accentuating it.  Not the prettiest thing to see.  Also, I have a couple of blue stars tattooed on my lower abdomen and so far they are a little stretched but still very much intact. Yay!
  • Childbirth classes are August 27-28th.  We're doing a full weekend-long class instead of the long 6 week course, it just works better for both of us.
  • Days left until due date: 41.  EEP!

  1. You are so lucky to be able to quit your job for your sanity and for the baby. My bff just went back to work after having her baby and is DEVASTATED. I loved completed basements! And swollen ankles? It's gonna get worse...hahahah!

  3. I craved refried beans and I had the belly button scars too! I thought they were stretch marks, but they completely went away...now it looks like nothing...hooray! I carried just like you did, too - which unfortunately meant a back labor for ne, but those little gals do a lot of turning and situating at the end, so your little bean will probably be headed in the right direction.

Also, so jealous of your basement being finished, I would LOVE to finish ours for some extra space (maybe a playroom in the next couple of years?)
