What is Bulletproof Coffee?

Bulletproof Coffee is a type of coffee that’s made by blending high-quality fats with hot coffee. The recipe typically includes MCT oil, coconut oil, unsalted butter, and heavy cream. These ingredients provide essential nutrients and medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), which are a type of fatty acid that your body can easily convert into energy.

Why should you drink Bulletproof Coffee?

Bulletproof Coffee is a great way to get a boost of energy and mental clarity during your fasting window. By drinking this creamy coffee on an empty stomach, you’ll help your body stay in a fasted state, which can improve insulin sensitivity, blood sugar levels, and fat burning. The recipe is also a good idea for people who are looking to lose weight or improve their heart health, as the healthy fats in the coffee can help lower cholesterol levels and blood pressure. For other health considerations, be aware that coffee is also low in histamines, but it can trigger histamine release in those who are sensitive to it

How to make Bulletproof Coffee

Making Bulletproof Coffee is easy! All you need is a regular coffee maker or a French press, high-quality coffee beans, MCT oil, coconut oil, unsalted butter, heavy cream, and a blender or immersion blender. You can also add sugar-free syrups or spices like cinnamon to customize the flavor.

The benefits of MCT oil and coconut oil

MCT oil and coconut oil are two of the main ingredients in Bulletproof Coffee, and they both have many health benefits. MCT oil is a type of medium chain triglyceride that’s easily converted into ketones, which are molecules that can help improve brain function and energy levels. Coconut oil is also high in MCTs, and it has been shown to improve heart health, boost weight loss, and reduce inflammation.

How to use Bulletproof Coffee in your meal plan

Bulletproof Coffee can be used as a meal replacement or as a way to supplement your food intake during your eating window. It’s a good idea to drink Bulletproof Coffee in the morning on an empty stomach to get the full benefits of the MCT oil and coconut oil. You can also use the recipe as a pre-workout drink to get an energy boost before exercising.

coffee for fasting

Bulletproof Coffee for Intermittent Fasting

Yield: 1 Serving
Prep Time: 5 minutes

Bulletproof coffee has become increasingly popular among intermittent fasters as a way to boost energy and focus without breaking their fast. This creamy, frothy beverage combines coffee with healthy fats to help you feel fuller for longer while providing a great energy boost. Here's a simple and delicious bulletproof coffee recipe that you can incorporate into your intermittent fasting routine.

Ingredients

  • 8-12 oz (240-360 ml) freshly brewed hot black coffee (preferably organic and single-origin)
  • 1 tbsp (14 g) grass-fed, unsalted butter or ghee
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) MCT oil or coconut oil
  • Optional: a dash of cinnamon or vanilla extract for extra flavor
  • Optional: a few drops of liquid stevia or monk fruit extract for sweetness (if desired and not strictly fasting)

Instructions

  1. Brew your favorite black coffee using your preferred method (French press, pour-over, or drip).
  2. While the coffee is brewing, measure out the grass-fed butter or ghee and MCT oil or coconut oil.
  3. Pour the hot coffee into a blender. Add the measured fats (butter or ghee and MCT or coconut oil) to the blender as well. If you want to add any optional flavorings or sweeteners, do so at this time.
  4. Blend the mixture on high for 30-60 seconds, or until the coffee becomes creamy and frothy. The fats should be fully emulsified, and the coffee should have a silky, smooth texture.
  5. Pour the blended bulletproof coffee into a mug and enjoy it immediately. This beverage is best consumed hot and fresh, as the froth will begin to settle as it cools.

Notes

  • If you don't have a blender, you can use an immersion blender or milk frother. Just be sure to blend the coffee and fats thoroughly for a smooth, frothy texture.
  • Experiment with different coffee beans and brewing methods to find the perfect combination for your taste preferences.
  • If you're strictly following an intermittent fasting protocol, be cautious with added sweeteners, as they might affect your fasting state. Always consult with a professional or research your specific fasting plan to ensure compatibility.
